My Approach to Therapy:

Akia’s therapeutic approach is grounded in psychodynamic and attachment theories, and she utilizes DBT interventions as needed. Akia primarily treats marginalized and/or traumatized adolescents and emerging/young adults who are dealing with emotional, relational, and behavioral challenges. She has a particular interest in the intersection of trauma and spirituality/religion among Black women. Akia empowers her clients to grow by gaining insight, developing self-compassion, and utilizing the tools essential to reach their full potential.
