My Approach to Therapy:

Sonal (any pronouns) is a trauma-informed, gender and sexuality affirming therapist. She has experience working with individuals navigating trauma (including familial, racial, immigration, and intergenerational trauma), disordered eating and body image concerns, relationship issues, consensual non-monogamy, experiences of gender based violence, mood disorders (such as BPD, bipolar, depression, etc.), and job and career related stressors. Due to their academic experiences as well as their identity as a queer, South Asian, genderfluid, immigrant, Sonal is invested in helping individuals navigate identity-based explorations, including gender and sexuality, multiple ethnic/geographical/cultural identities, disability, and neurodivergence. Sonal’s approach is anti-oppressive and centers the client’s autonomy and agency, while drawing from psychodynamic, humanistic, somatic, dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), and internal family systems (IFS) lenses. Clients have said that Sonal brings an affirming, grounded, and light presence to the room.
