My Approach to Therapy:

In my work with traditional therapy clients, I start with a strong therapeutic rapport as the foundation, pulling interventions from select theories, and ultimately tailoring strategies to suit individual needs. I work to create a treatment environment that values the client’s input as much as mine; so, determining certain aspects of the therapy relationship is done collaboratively giving clients ownership over the process. My treatment approach includes, but is not limited to psychodynamic, solution focused, and cognitive behavioral interventions; but I have also been known to use humor and sarcasm periodically to gently move my clients toward achieving their personal goals.
One of my specific passions is working with high-performing athletes. Once a young person demonstrates elite athletic skill, they can unwittingly find themselves on a distinct, sometimes isolating, developmental path. They face different stressors, including character development in the context of college/professional sports and grief/loss of identity experienced at the end of a career. I work with athletes, at various stages of development, addressing a variety of issues, with the ultimate goal of improving performance in their sports and in their lives.
